What type of bikes do they use : Similar to a road bike but with slightly altered frame and fork geometry for mud clearance and comfort. Frog legg or cantilever brakes are used. Road wheels with cyclo-cross specific tyres. Smaller gear ratio's for easier pedalling in races.
How long does a race last : Races are designed to last 1hour.
Who can compete : Anyone with a cyclo-cross bike
What are the basic rules : Mass start, correct bike equipment must be used, no food or drink [ welll... check on the day ] during the race, spare wheels and bikes must be kept and changed in the pits. Bike clean / wash may be allowed.
Origins of the sport : Started in Belgium in the 50's as a recreational sport for road cyclists to keep fit over winter. A group of belgium cyclist out cycling one winter decided to have a race from one place to another and they could get there by any route possibe, this meant they took to crossing fields and getting off their bikes to jump over fences and hedges...thus cyclo-cros was born.

What is the MTB support race :This is a race for people who don't have a cross bike but have a mountain bike. Anyone of any age and of any standard can enter this. This is a warm up event to the main senior race, it gets the spectators ready for whats ahead and gives those beginners a taste of the sport.
